INTERNATIONAL PERSPECTIVE ON GLOBALIZATION AND THE STATE OF THE ECONOMY

The general public in emerging countries (India, China, Brazil, South Africa) tends to view the current economic situation more positively than that in the US and in France but everywhere the feeling that a new economic and financial crisis may happen again in the coming years is widespread.

French public opinion continues to distinguish itself on the world scene with a very low level of support for market economy and capitalism with only 20 % of the French who consider it is a system that functions rather well and should be maintained vs 55 % in Brazil, 56 % in the US and 58 % in China. Among the investigated countries, France is also the one where the perception that we are still in the midst of the crisis is most widespread: 71 % vs 45 % in the USA and 28 % in India. It is also among the French that opinions towards one’s country’s position in the global competition is most grim: 36 %.

Samples : 653 persons in France, 683 in the US, 657 in Brazil, 812 in India, 840 in China and 637 in South Africa, aged 18 to 60 in each country.
