WOMEN AND THEIR RELATIONSHIP WITH THEIR BODY

As part of its established expertise in the Beauty sector, Ifop provides support to players on the hygiene / beauty market in guiding their development and innovation strategies in the main fast-growing emerging markets (China, Brazil, India and Russia) and mature markets (USA, Europe, Japan).

Regularly studying women and in particular their attitudes to beauty, Ifop recently - via a survey conducted in China, France and Russia – investigated women’s relationship with their bodies, with the aim of identifying more specifically what they consider are the most important zones of their body.

The survey also highlighted the parts presently giving them the least satisfaction and in which they would be prepared to invest more. This study revealed a degree of uniformity over the 3 countries regarding issues existing between women and their bodies, with nevertheless a few strong local specificities particular to each of the cultures included.

Ifop’s study reveals that :
- For 60% of women, the face represents the most important part of the body,
- Almost 4 out of 10 women in France and in Russia include the hair among the 3 most important elements of their body, 
- Across the three countries, women are prepared to spend more on their abdomen and their breasts.


Study conducted among representative national samples*of :
- 4,001 French women, aged 18 and over. Representation ensured by quotas method (age, occupation of respondent) after stratification per region and town size. 18th to 22nd March 2013
- 2,005 Russian women, aged 18 and over. Representation ensured by quotas method (age, household income) after stratification per region. 22nd March to 2nd April 2013.
- 2,002 Chinese women, aged between 18 and 55. Urban population in China, towns in Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3. Representation ensured by quotas method (age, household income) after stratification per region. 22nd March to 2nd April 2013.
